Rebecca Rowley is a multidisciplinary artist and professional art therapist with a background in illustration, design, and visual communications. She has a BFA from the University of Calgary and completed her post graduate studies in Art Psychotherapy at the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy. Her art comes from a place of soulful inner exploration and an interest in how the inner world meets outer experience. She is passionate about creativity’s ability to center the Self, access inner guidance, heal, and connect people. Her personal artwork combines her skills as a storyteller and communicator in commercial art with her inner journeys in search of truth and beauty.
Artist Statement- My creative process begins by looking inward. I do this through meditation, through a philosophical wondering, or through a general dip into my imagination and inner landscape. I capture the most prominent pieces with a drawing in my sketchbook and then I develop it further by bringing it into the computer. I use bits of photographs for their emotive qualities, colors, textures, meanings, and “paint” them into the drawing. The art evolves like a collage that adds up to a new, surreal type of space. I like the finished art piece to convey a sense of overlapping realities that mirrors how the imagination weaves through our lived experience. Imagination is always at play, rich in its own way, adding meaning and texture to our lives. I like to acknowledge and honor its presence through an overall feeling of otherworldliness.
